CHESHIRE WEDDINGS

Cheshire weddings have a bit of everything. Grand country estates, rustic oak barns, walled gardens and a Roman city sitting on the River Dee. As a Cheshire wedding photographer, I've photographed couples at places like Combermere Abbey, Colshaw Hall and Sandhole Oak Barn, and not one of
those days looked like the others.

why get married in Cheshire?

Because you can have pretty much any kind of wedding here. Chester gives you a city wedding with Roman walls and a riverside to wander along. The east of the county runs right up to the Peak District, so you get hills in the background. Down south near Nantwich it's quiet farmland, big old estates and the odd lake. And Knutsford and the villages around it are barn country.

It's easy for guests too. Cheshire sits between Manchester and Liverpool, so most people can get to you without an overnight trip (though they'll want one after the party).

One more thing I love about Cheshire: loads of the venues are exclusive use. Personally, I really dislike venues where another wedding is happening at the same time as yours. You spend the day trying not to bump into the other party, and food and staff get split between two weddings. With exclusive use, the whole place and the whole team are yours.

my approach to Cheshire wedding photography

I don't line you up and tell you to smile. I blend in, watch what's happening and photograph it, so your gallery tells the whole story from first coffee to last dance. When you do need a bit of help (portraits, family groups), I'll guide you with gentle prompts and keep it quick.

Cheshire venues make that easy. Most of them have gardens, lawns or a lake right outside the door, so we can sneak off for portraits without ever getting in a car (well, maybe a golf buggy at Combermere).

You'll find more about how I work on my documentary wedding photography and candid wedding photography pages. If you love a bit of grain and nostalgia, have a look at 35mm film wedding photography too. The full breakdown of a wedding day with me is on my full day wedding photography page.

weddings in Cheshire?

Not every wedding needs 150 guests and a 12-piece band. My micro wedding coverage is made for up to 30 guests, with 2 to 4 hours for your ceremony, portraits and relaxed time with your favourite people. There are some lovely small wedding venues in Cheshire too: Colshaw Hall's Stables barn is built for smaller weddings, and Combermere Abbey works just as well for an intimate day as a big one.

If you're going down the register office route, Cheshire is split between two councils. Cheshire East runs the register offices in Crewe and Macclesfield. Cheshire West and Chester runs Chester and

Winsford. Crewe has rooms for anything from just the two of you and two witnesses up to 50 guests, and Chester's ceremony room fits up to 38 guests.

Your day doesn't have to end when you walk out of the register office, either. Lots of couples add an adventure session straight after the ceremony or on another day. The Peak District starts just past Macclesfield, so you don't have to go far for big views.

planning your Cheshire wedding

A few things I'd tell any couple getting married in Cheshire:

01. Check which council your venue sits in

02. Get ready on site if you can

03. Go exclusive use

04. Plan your portraits around the light

05. Think about an outdoor ceremony

FAQ

Do you charge for travel to Cheshire?

Not for full day weddings: travel anywhere in the UK is included. For hourly
coverage and micro weddings, travel is charged separately and you'll know the
cost before you book.

Are you insured?

Yes, fully. I've got public liability and professional indemnity insurance, and I'm happy to send proof straight to your venue if they ask for it

Can we have our engagement shoot in Cheshire?

Yes! Every full day package includes a complimentary engagement shoot. Your
venue's grounds, Chester's city walls or the hills out past Macclesfield all work brilliantly, and it's a great way to get used to the camera before the big day.

What if our venue is new to you?

Honestly, that's fine. You're hiring me for my eye, not for a map of the grounds. I
always arrive early to get a feel for the place, and we'll have a pre-wedding
meeting before the day to go through your timeline and every little detail.

Can we get married outside in Cheshire?

Yes, as long as it's within the grounds of a venue approved for weddings.
Carden Park has an outdoor gazebo, Sandhole Oak Barn does lakeside
ceremonies and Combermere Abbey can marry you in the middle of the maze. My guide on how to legally get married in the UK explains the rules.

How long until we get our photos?

You'll get a sneak peek within 5 days. Your full gallery arrives within 6 to 12
weeks, depending on the time of year.
