Preston WEDDINGS

Preston doesn't shout about itself, but it should. Big Victorian parks running down to the Ribble, a grand old museum in the middle of town and some seriously characterful venues a few minutes outside the city. As a Preston wedding photographer, I get to photograph weddings in the place I call home.

why get married in preston?

Because it's a city with a lot more green than you'd think. Preston became a city in 2002, but its parks are much older: Avenham and Miller Parks are some of the finest Victorian parks in the North West, sitting right on the River Ribble near Winckley Square. Then there's the Harris Museum in the centre of town, and the Preston Guild, a celebration held only once every 20 years.

It's brilliant for guests, too. Preston station is on the West Coast Main Line, with direct trains to London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and the M6 runs right past the city.

my favourite spots for wedding photos in preston

The best spots for wedding photos in Preston are Avenham and Miller Parks, the riverside along the Ribble, Winckley Square and the walled garden next to the register office. They're all close to the city centre, so a short walk or a quick drive gets you plenty of variety.

  • Avenham Park: rolling lawns, big old trees and the river at the bottom. It's my go-to for Preston portraits.
  • Miller Park: right next door, with formal Victorian gardens, a fountain and lots of grand stonework.
  • The River Ribble: the riverside paths are lovely in the evening, when the light drops low over the water.
  • Winckley Square: Georgian townhouses around a leafy square, great for a city feel.
  • The register office garden: a walled garden right next to the Lancashire Rose Suite, perfect for photos straight after the ceremony.

getting married at Preston Register Office?

Preston's ceremonies take place in the Lancashire Rose Suite on Bow Lane, run by Lancashire County Council.

  • The ceremony room: seats 74 guests and is fully accessible.
  • Photos: there's a walled garden right next to the office, so we can head straight out for confetti and family photos.
  • When: ceremonies run seven days a week, with later finishes on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Parking: pay and display on site, Monday to Saturday

For a register office wedding, my hourly coverage from £600 for 2 hours gives us time for the ceremony, the walled garden and a quick hop over to Avenham Park for portraits.

01. USE THE PARKS

If your venue is outside town but you want a city feel, we can stop at Avenham Park on the way. It only adds half an hour.

02. Check the football

On Preston North End home days, roads around Deepdale get busy, so build in extra time if you're crossing the city.

03. Help guests with the train

Direct trains from London, Glasgow and Edinburgh make Preston easy for anyone travelling a long way.

FAQ

Are you actually based in Preston?

Yes! Preston is home, so I know the city, the parks and the venues around it well.

Can we get married outdoors near Preston?

Only in the grounds of a venue approved for weddings. Hoghton Tower's courtyards and walled gardens are worth asking about. My guide on how to legally get married in the UK explains the rules.

Can we have photos in Avenham Park?

Absolutely. It's a public park, so we can wander down after your ceremony or stop off on the way to your venue.

How soon will we get our photos?

You'll get a sneak peek within 5 days, and your full gallery within 6 to 12 weeks.
